Though it blooms beautifully in the day, each night this amazing flower submerges itself into the murky, muddy water where it resides. Miraculously, each morning, the flower rises from the shallow water it calls home seemingly unscathed by the debris that covered it the night before. The lotus flower is often considered sacred because it is said to have survived the ice age and has been around for over 100 million years.
